BioInitiative report (2007)
EMR Australia, Saturday, December 29, 2007

A collaboration of international scientists has identified health problems from low levels of EMR from electrical and communications technology. Exposure to even everyday levels of radiation from electrical and communications technologies can have harmful effects on the body — and international standards are inadequate to protect public health. These are among the conclusions of the report of the BioInitiative Working Group released in late August. It concludes that, “The scientifi  read more

SCENIHR Report
EMR Australia, Friday, June 08, 2007

The European Commission has just released a report on the “Possible effects of Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) on Human Health.” After reviewing recent studies, the authors find limited evidence of risk but recommend further research. For radiofrequency radiation from communications technology, the report concludes that there is no consistent evidence of health problems. “The balance of epidemiologic evidence indicates that mobile phone use of less than 10 years does not pose any increa  read more

Phone driving like drink driving
EMR Australia, Thursday, June 29, 2006

Using a mobile phone while driving has been shown to be as dangerous as drink driving. People who use a mobile phone while driving have slower reaction times and a greater risk of accidents, according to a new study from the Utah University in the US. “We found that people are as impaired when the drive and talk on a cell phone as they are when they drive intoxicated at the legal blood-alcohol limit,” says Frank Drews, one of the study’s authors, an assistant professor of psychology.   read more

Cordless phone recommendations
EMR Australia, Thursday, June 01, 2006

A German government agency has issued a warning about the use of cordless (DECT) phones. According to current scientific knowledge nationally and internationally, there are indications for biological effects of high frequency electromagnetic fields which are the means of transmission for DECT phones”, said the Federal Agency for Radiation Protection (BfS) in a press release of 31 January. The Agency advises that DECT phones are usually the highest source of high frequency radiation ins  read more

Mobiles and epilepsy
EMR Australia, Friday, January 27, 2006

A study from Spain casts new light onto the risk of mobile phone radiation for epileptics. E Lopez-Martin and team tested three groups of rats. One group was exposed to a GSM mobile phone signal of 900 MHz for two hours; one was exposed to the same radiation and a chemical which rendered them prone to seizures; the third was exposed only to the chemical. The researchers found that the seizure prone rats, when irradiated, suffered seizures and there was an increase in levels of c-Fos in v  read more

German mobile phone review
EMR Australia, Wednesday, June 01, 2005

Following a review of the scientific literature, German scientists have recommended precautions for the use of mobile phones. A comprehensive research review by 25 German scientists has found evidence of risk from mobile phone radiation. On the basis of their findings, scientists recommended a precautionary approach to the use of mobile phones. “Keep mobile phone calls short, don’t call in a moving car without external antenna, don’t make mobile phone calls at a long distance from the antenn  read more

Telstra's phone tower software - Questions Answered
EMR Australia, Friday, December 14, 2001

How does the community find out about the levels of radiation from a mobile phone antennas? Is it possible to have a printout of radiation footprints of an area? What will be the radiation exposures at various distances from an antenna? What will they be at various heights from the ground? On Tuesday 16 November Telstra presented EMRAA with a copy of a software program it has developed that will allow councils and communities to quickly and easily answer many of these questions. The FIP   read more

Mobile phones - what the experts say
EMR Australia, Saturday, September 15, 2001

In light of recent scientific evidence of risk, several eminent scientists have recommended precautions when using mobile phones including restrictions on their use by children. As governments and industries remind us, there is “no conclusive proof” that the radiation from mobile phones causes health problems and they dismiss any possibility of risk at athermal (non-heating) levels of radiation. Absolute proof there may not be, but evidence there is, in abundance, that the radiation fro  read more

Mobile phone and cancer link
EMR Australia, Friday, September 14, 2001

While a new study from Europe indicates that analogue phones increase the risk of brain tumours, Australian researchers show how this effect may occur. Suggestions that mobile phones cause brain cancer have been touted now for nearly a decade. The issue was catapulted to public attention in 1993 when heavy mobile phone user, Suzie Reynard, died from a tumour she claimed was caused by her mobile phone and which was adjacent to the position of her phone antenna. Her husband commenced legal act  read more
